Sophie Raynor

I’m a multi-platform graduate journalist with experience in freelance writing and radio production in the Asia-Pacific region. If it’s tropical and topical, I’m interested.

I have a Graduate Diploma in Journalism from RMIT University, freelance bylines at publications including Al Jazeera, Crikey, and Southeast Asia Globe, and intern experience with ABC Radio Australia and the Canberra Times. See samples of my writing, radio, or video work.

Dili, Timor-Leste, August 2019. Reporting Children of Independence for New Naratif. 18-year-old Trisha d’Souza (left) was born just months after her country voted to become the 21st century’s newest sovereign state. Her sister takes our photo on the family’s verandah.

I’ve previously worked in not-for-profit communications and magazine publishing and spent two years living and working in tropical Timor-Leste before enrolling in journalism school. I have conducted and transcribed interviews in Tetun and have working proficiency in the language.

I’m interested in Australia’s relationship with our region, our communities, and how good work can help make a difference. I’m currently living in Melbourne and looking for freelance opportunities. View my CV or get in touch to learn more.
